Yes, my kids think I have gone crazy but it's been kind of fun!
this year. They have outlined topics that started in January
and go to November. On Thursday nights I have my family
over for dinner and then Joey and his friend, Dustin and
myself, go to the meeting. (Keat went last time and
loved it!) Some of things that we have learned about is
water storage, making a solar still, how to stay warm and dry,
indoors and out, our 72 hour kits, as modeled above. I hope we
never have to use them because I can barely lift mine. (Ashley
marched around saying she hoped we really got to use them!)
I won't mention that she made fun of me the whole time.
One of the things we have in there is chalk. She can't wait to
write "WE ARE HEADING SOUTH". Isn't she funny! (I believe
the chalk was to keep my kids entertained when they were
little so I decided to keep it in there.) Lindsey just cranked
her hand radio and turned on music to dance to while we
put them together. Very entertaining! We also learned about
storing a 3 month supply of things we eat all the time. We
learned about gardens last week. This week is sprouting
seeds for Vitamin C. It has been a lot of fun and Joey keeps
me going. In a few weeks they will talk about dehydrating
food and he has all ready bought one and started.
(Mine will be here in a few days! : ) ) Anyway if your
interested the website is
It has made me really think each week, about what my
priorities are and how I can work towards being prepared for
hopefully, an easy disaster. (Is there such a thing?)
P.S. You may be thinking, why hasn't she done
this before? Well I had many years ago, but my 72 hour
kits had diapers in them and when I moved I
threw out most of my outdated storage.

I hope that you will updat often I tend to get upset when people don't update! Your family is cute as ever
ReplyDeleteAwesome, Joan. That reminds me that I should take a look in our 72 hour backpacks and add some diapers and chalk :)
ReplyDeleteI believe we have over 150 things growing inside of our house right now in mini pots. It's a bit crazy, but I'm slowly becoming excited...
